Other Activities
BOAT TRIPS. Boat Trips are available on lakes Bart-les-Orgues, Saint-Pardoux and Vassiviere. Trips down the river Dordogne
are great fun but better still hire some canoes, take a disposable BBQ for lunch and have a brilliant day out everyone will
enjoy. Hiring canoes available all over the area.
FISHING. Twelve lakes or areas of water are open all year round for fishing. There are over 2,240 km. of riverbank for
fishing. Of this 1,956 km. is classed as prime trout and salmon waters (category 1) with 286 km. mainly for predatory fish
species (category 2). Every type of fishing can be practiced all year round. A fishing permit is compulsory but can be purchased
at hunting and fishing supply shops, tobacconists and some bars and cafes. A holiday permit is valid for 15 days running,
between 15th June and 30th September. Some fishing lakes sell half or whole day fishing permits. If required we will arrange
the fishing permits for you just tell us what you want. We also know of a number of lakes where you can fish.
WALKING. Ramblers can enjoy some of the 1,800 km of bridleways and footpaths in the Haute Vienne. Part of the long distance
route GR4 crosses the department on its journey from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean. Other walks range from 8 km
to 25 km. The Monts d'Ambazac and the Monts de Blond both have marked routes so you can fully explore and enjoy the varied
countryside in which they are situated, as do the many lakes, such as Lac de Vassiviere with its island criss-crossed by a
network of footpaths and nature trails leading to outdoor sculptures of local granite and wood.
Walks are signposted in many villages, and starting points, distances indicated.
HORSE RIDING. An alternative way to explore the Haute Vienne. There are approximately thirty riding centers offering
qualified instructors and also specialist disciplines such as dressage and harness horse-racing in addition to the normal
leisure activities.
GOLF. There are plenty of golf clubs in the Limousin, a total of nine clubs, and special passes can be purchased to play
these courses for as little as 57 euros in low season.
There are two golf courses I know of close to the house, less than half an hour away by car.
Lakes
Haute Vienne alone has 8 major lakes each having various amenities such as Swimming and Bathing, Windsurfing, Sailing, Fishing,
Cycle hire, Footpaths for walking and Horse Riding.
There are many smaller lakes offering various activities to pass away the hours depending on what activity you want to
do the variety is endless.
