LA GRUE is our luxury holiday gite and it was a 19th Century farmhouse with traditional stonework and oak-beams throughout (which have been carefully restored to their former glory). The gite is the oldest building in the area and is set back from the road and has its own access drive way and parking at the front entrance.
We have exposed a number of stone walls in the gite and re-pointed them in the traditional manner using sand and lime and this has given the gite an authentic look but also made the rooms brighter and homely.
Some of the door ways are low so the key word is Mind Your Head. (The French must have been a lot shorter in times gone by.)
The gite is set up to cater for up to six people, two double and a twin bedroom. We can provide a cot for baby if required. There is also a bed settee in the living room which can be used if the booking party has more than six people. (Maximum 8)
We are situated in a small rural hamlet of four houses, on a quiet country road. The nearest village is Cheronnac which has a small bar and post office, and is about one mile down the road, the other direction is Vayres which has a number of small essential shops and a bar.

LOCATION

The Haute-Vienne Region of France.
The Limousin region, whilst less than four hours drive south from Paris, is nonetheless largely unexplored by visitors from overseas. To the French this area, which is the lake district at the heart of France, is one of their best kept secrets and a great holiday favorite for them.
We are 45 minutes drive from the city of Limoges, its main-line station and Bellegarde Airport. Limoges is a wonderful city to explore, with many fine restaurants, excellent shopping facilities and a wealth of delightful galleries, museums and local outlets for the famous Limoges pottery.
In addition, there are a number of local potteries, which are open to visitors and have shops attached selling their products at very reasonable prices.
In addition to the many fine, reasonably priced restaurants in the area, there are many sporting activities in the region, including horse riding, fishing, golf, swimming (indoor and out) and canoeing. There are also many beautiful walks within easy reach many centered round St-Mathieu and Cheronnac.
We are only 10 minutes from the town of St-Mathieu which has a good supermarket and general shops. There is also a swimming lake and artificial beach here, and you can hire boats and fish in the summer.
Calais is 455 miles from us and approximately 7 hours drive, Paris is 170 miles and approximately 4 hours drive, Bordeaux is 115 miles and approximately 2 hours 30 min drive, La Rochelle is 110 miles and approximately 2 hours drive.
There are 1400 Miles of waterways and 9 large lakes in the area.
Limoges Bellegarde Airport links to the UK via Stansted, Liverpool and Southampton and the flying time is under one and a half hours after take off.

THE HAUTE VIENNE

The Haute Vienne (87) is the least industrialized region of France and it is famous for vast expanses of Chestnut and Oak forests, pleasant villages and large lakes. There is a wide range of outdoor activities and a diverse variety of wildlife in the area and the area has now been designated as part of France's newest Parc Regionale.
Whilst the area provides the perfect setting for a summer holiday it is also particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn, when the changing colours of the seasons are a photographers dream and the weather can be very pleasant for walking and cycling.
The capital of the Haute-Vienne is Limoges, this is a very attractive city famous for it's porcelain. There are also 10 Castles in this department alone, museum of varying descriptions, archaeological sites, 8 major lakes and 2 theme parks.
The attractions of the other departments of Limousin, namely, Correze (19) and Creuse (23) are within easy reach as are neighbouring Charente (16) & The Dordogne (24).
